Functions of the Ministry of Language, Culture and Heritage

  1.  Implementation.

The activities of the Divine Language Academy

The following is the The Academy has the responsibilities assigned to it.

  1. To work for the protection and development of the Dhvehi language 
  2. To ensure that the language is used in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Dhvehi language and to take action against those who do not. To take necessary measures to maintain the accuracy of information on culture and heritage.
  3. To celebrate the national days of Dhvehi language, literature, culture and heritage in Sri Lanka.
  4. Compile and publish Dhvehi dictionaries 
  5. Planning, designing and implementing projects and programs on Dhvehi language and history.
  6. Conducting scientific research and scientific activities on Dhvehi language and history in collaboration with parties in Sri Lanka and abroad Publishing all materials and acting as a center for classifying, organizing and disseminating information on the language and history 
  7. To receive various grants from the State and other bodies and to use the funds to achieve the objectives of the Institute.
  8. To perform such other duties as the Academy may require as per Act No. 2011/9 (Priority of the National Language of Dhvehi Raajje Act).



Functions of the National Center for the Protection of Cultural Heritage

The following are the responsibilities and responsibilities of the National Center for the Protection of Cultural Heritage powers.

  6. Determine the procedures for conducting assessments to assess the potential impact on the cultural heritage of Dhvehi Raajje.
  7. Inspect the area of Dhvehi Raajje for exploration of cultural heritage, grant permits to persons conducting such studies and monitor the progress of the work. To encourage and assist in conducting research according to the principles of science.
  8. To maintain the information collected on cultural heritage through modern facilities through a secure system.
  9. To charge for services provided by the Center under prescribed rules 
  10. To conduct research and disseminate information on the heritage and customs of the people of Dhaka.
  11. To administer the Heritage Trust Fund.
  12. To conduct public consultation and opinion on matters relating to the protection of cultural heritage Arrange for the opening of places, buildings and areas containing cultural heritage to the public in accordance with the rules made.
  13. Take action against those who damage and neglect the cultural heritage of the country.



National Museum Duties

  1. Make and maintain a complete catalog of antiquities and existing artifacts acquired for the museum.
