The Maldives is a sovereign state that maintains and defends its independence. The legitimacy of its territory is by right given to the people of Maldives.
Maldives was once referred to as the Arthurian Sea during the era of Arthurian empowerment. Subsequently, it came to be known as the Eastern Sea, and later as the Western Sea. By the early 16th century, in 1515 AD, the region where the Maldives is situated was commonly referred to as the Indian Ocean.
The Maldives is situated in the heart of the Indian ocean, 410 nm west of Srilanka and 590 km south of India. The longest way to measure Maldives is from North Thiladhunmathi Atoll Thuraakunu through the ends of S Atoll Gan. The widest width is from the east coasts of Felidhu Atoll Fohtheyomuli till the west edges of Ari atoll Hukuruelhy island. Maldives is 90,000 km² including the waters. The dry land area of Maldives makes up approximately 1% of the total area.
